Join Dural Joeys, for your child's first jump into Scouting!

Our trained Joey Scout Leaders guide a Joey Mob of no more than 20 boys and girls, as they learn to share and care for each other in a social environment. It’s more than school as it extends each child’s understanding of the world around them. Joey Scouts learn how to recognise native birds and animals and develop an understanding of the impact of our modern world on the environment. At this age children need experiences which help them learn to work and play in groups, mix with adults outside home and school environments, and develop their physical, intellectual, social and spiritual abilities through active experiences.
Leaders are not referred to as Mr. or Mrs, but have names from the friends in the Australian bush or Aboriginal names, eg. Brolga, Bilby, Magpie, Possum, etc. Or in our case, Galah, the Wolf, and Platypus ! Joey Scouts are encouraged to express themselves creatively, through games, stories and craft activities. Building monsters and spaceships from scrap items, growing plants from seedlings or singing songs together all develop a strong sense of belonging. |
The Joey Scout Uniform is easy care and affordable. It consists of the dark blue polo shirt with the Joey section colour (tan) across the sleeve, yoke and collar. Below the waist, joeys wear navy blue shorts, trousers or skirt. Dural Joeys also wear our royal blue, red and white Dural Scouts scarf, and a woggle. |
Joey Scouts are taught to jump in and help other people and to share with their friends. They enjoy exciting visits to special places such as the local fire station or the zoo. Joey Scouts do not work on a badge award scheme. However, there are Challenge Badges, where Mob participation is essential to qualify. These participation badges include the environment challenge, the adventure challenge, the buddy badge and the care and share badge. Click here to see the Joey Scout badge placement guidelines. |
Joey Scouts meet once a week, on Thursday nights, between 6.30 and 7.30pm, at our Dural Scout Hall (414 Galston Rd, Dural). There is a simple standard opening and closing ceremony where the Joeys salute the flag and remember their promise, law and theme. The Joey Scout Theme: Help Other People “HOP, HOP, HOP!” |
